The Jerusalem Cross dates back to the 11th century. The large cross symbolizes Christ. The four crosses surrounding the large center cross represent the four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The four crosses are also thought to represent the four corners of the earth, to which Jesus desired His word to be preached by His disciples.
